IMI Level 3 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Repair & Replacement

Who is this qualification for? This programme is designed for individuals who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation. It also contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.

A 2-day course accredited by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and delivered by expert trainers from industry at one of our purpose-built Automotive Academies.

What will you study as part of this qualification? 

The combined IMI Level 2.2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities and IMI Level 3 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Repair and Replacement qualification will cover:

  • Electric/hybrid vehicle system components and operation
  • Hazards surrounding electric/hybrid vehicles
  • How to reduce the risks to yourself and others when working on electric/hybrid vehicles
  • Safely preparing the vehicle when carrying routine maintenance (excluding high voltage components or systems)
  • Working safely on an electric/hybrid vehicle
  • Using information to carry out the task
  • Carrying out repairs on high energy electrical systems
  • Recording information and making suitable recommendations.

As a result, technicians successfully completing this qualification will acquire significant core knowledge and the ability to work safely around, but not maintain Electric/Hybrid vehicles.  Certificated technicians will also qualify for  the industry recognised, IMI Techsafe register.

Eligbility

Eligible Technicians will need to possess appropriate vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at level 3.

Technicians will also be willing and able to provide original, photographic identification at induction on day one as well as bringing compliant boots and overalls to fully participate. All other equipment and facilities will be provided by us on the day.

This qualification is designed for technicians who maintain and repair electric/hybrid high voltage vehicle systems and components. It contains the knowledge and skills required to work on live high voltage vehicle electrical components and associated systems. On completion, technicians will be able to practically demonstrate that they have the skills required to repair high voltage vehicle electrical components and systems. This qualification is an official entry route into our TechSafe™ recognition.

This course is designed for those who may encounter hydrogen vehicles (all variations) and require safety awareness. It is suitable for non-technical people such as managers, parts and sales, event staff, vehicle recovery personnel, dismantlers, damage assessors, insurance companies, vehicle hire companies, and hydrogen vehicle drivers. It contains the knowledge of the dangers surrounding hydrogen vehicles (all variations) and the precautions to avoid potential injury.

More Information

This one-day programme offers experienced automotive Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) technicians the opportunity to develop new skills and enhance existing ones. It also incorporates Unit AC1 (K/600/3391) Refrigerant Handling (EC842-2006). This unit is approved by Defra for MAC technicians (working with cars and car-derived vans) who handle F-gas.
